City Council Terminates ALPR Contract with Flock Safety
At its Feb. 24 meeting, Mountain View City Council voted unanimously to terminate the city’s contract with Flock Safety for the automated license plate reader (ALPR) pilot program. The city’s 30 cameras have been off since Feb. 2, when Police Chief Mike Canfield shut them down after an audit discovered data had been accessed by federal and state law enforcement agencies in violation of approved policies. Mayor Emily Ann Ramos said, “We are ending Mountain View’s use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras.” Stationary cameras will be removed as soon as possible.
