Wylie City Council votes 7-0 not to renew Flock license plate reader contract

On August 26, 2026, the Wylie City Council voted unanimously (7-0) not to renew the city’s contract with Flock, a license plate reader camera company. The contract expires Oct. 31, and cameras are expected to be removed around that time. The annual cost for six cameras is about $27,000. Mayor Matthew Porter said he is concerned that data is being stored and shared with many other departments. The city had used Flock since August 2024.
